埃塞俄比亚全名埃塞俄比亚联邦民主共和国（旧称“阿比西尼亚“，Abyssinia）是一个位于非洲东北的国家。与一般非洲国家不同，埃塞俄比亚在第二次世界大战被意大利入侵（1936-1941年）之前，一直维持其古老的君主制度，并未受到殖民主义浪潮的吞噬。1974年，一次军事流血政变将1930年以来一直统治埃塞俄比亚的皇帝海尔·塞拉西（Haile Selassie I）推翻以后，埃塞俄比亚改为奉行社会主义，直到1991年放弃社会主义。
